The partners in the project
The mission of the Tiberland project is to restore centrality and importance to the Tiber river through shared planning and the systematisation of the many opportunities for recreation, entertainment and relaxation offered by the river to the local population and visitors, outside and inside the Capital, and to make these more accessible. A programme of combined enhancement and promotion initiatives involving not only the Capital but also the Metropolitan City area, putting public institutions in touch with private organisations.
PUBLIC ENTITIES
- OSTIA ANTICA ARCHAEOLOGICAL PARK
The archaeological area of Ostia Antica, the Imperial Ports of Claudius and Trajan and the Necropolis of Isola Sacra represent the main cultural attractions of the Tiberland Project and the entire area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Ostia owes its existence to its closeness to the river Tiber and its mouth (ostium = mouth) where the first Roman settlement was founded. A decisive role therefore in view of the many cultural routes involved for which discounted admission is being sought for the "Friends of the Tiber". A special entrance to the excavations is also envisaged on the side facing the river, which can be reached by boat from the Marconi Bridge. - MUNICIPALITY OF FORMELLO
The municipality of Formello is not directly located on the Tiber, but is located in an area that has always had strong ties with the river. In fact, it hosts the Agro Veientano Museum, which, since its opening in 1992, has focused on the archaeology and history of the Veio area. This Etruscan city had a strong maritime vocation, tied to trade by means of navigation on the river which formed a link with the Tyrrhenian Sea. As part of the Tiberland Project, the Municipality of Formello promotes the enhancement of the cultural and natural heritage that links Rome to Veio and Veio to the sea, following the course of the Tiber. - MUNICIPALITY OF FIANO ROMANO
This town, located on the Via Tiberina just 36 km from the capital, is surrounded by a hilly area and a vast plain on the right bank of the Tiber. The medieval village, accessible through Porta Capena, was built for defensive purposes and still dominates the Tiber Valley. A few kilometres from the village, on the Via Tiberina towards Rome, are two exceptional archaeological sites: the Lucus Feroniae and the Volusii Saturnini Villa.
An area of great value that deserves being promoted for its historical, cultural, environmental and food and wine heritage. - ROME’S MUNICIPALITY I
Rome’s Municipality I represents the very heart of the city, the historic centre which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1980. An urban area consisting of 22 quarters enclosed within the Aurelian Walls, to the left of the Tiber, and the Janiculum Walls, to the right of the river. An area that hosts an immense treasure of sites and testimonies of environmental, historical, cultural, archaeological and architectural interest.
The government of the Municipality is at the forefront in positioning destination Tiber and in planning the best welcome for visitors, including by facilitating the organisation of activities and events. - ROME’S MUNICIPALITY II
One of the Capital’s greenest Municipalities, it encompasses a number of large parks such as Villa Ada, Villa Torlonia and Villa Borghese and also major cultural institutions including foreign cultural institutes and university departments and faculties, as well as the historical and elegant Parioli, Trieste and Pinciano quarters.
It also includes the Flaminio area, with the presence of two major contemporary architecture projects, the Parco della Musica Auditorium and the MAXXI, fervent centres of cultural production at international level. It is around these assets, close to the Tiber, that the Municipality's involvement in the Tiberland Project will be developed, along with its role as a facilitator with regard to the red tape required for administrative authorisations for events and meetings. - MUNICIPALITY OF MORLUPO
The most ancient part of Morlupo, located north of Rome, is the Mazzocca district, developed on an upland overlooking the Tiber river and where, in Roman times, stood the 'statio Ad Vigesimum', a marker of the 20th mile of the ancient Via Flaminia. Its historical origins date back to the age of the Capenates, an Italic population that prospered in Lazio before the advent of Rome and whose territory stretched along the right bank of the Tiber. An area rich in cultural and natural values which, thanks to the strength of the territorial network created by the Tiberland Project, can be enhanced and promoted in order to attract ever larger numbers of tourists. - MUNICIPALITY OF MAGLIANO ROMANO
On a cliff overlooking the Nocchia Valley, where the first “station” of the Via Flaminia was located, stands Magliano. Like other municipalities in the area, its origins date back to Etruscan times when Veio extended its dominion over this area. Then came the Roman conquest, and later, in the Middle Ages, the Benedictine monks. Art, history and ancient traditions that deserve to be promoted and passed on, including thanks to the initiatives of the Tiberland Project whereby the Municipality aims to improve the links between Park entities and synergy as regards the care and promotion of the trails to be covered on foot, by bicycle or on horseback. - MUNICIPALITY OF CAPENA
Between the Via Flaminia and the Via Tiberina, Capena is located in the heart of the Tiber Valley. In the town centre, the 'Paraterra' area has preserved its medieval architecture and fabric of narrow, winding alleyways. The area around 'La Rocca', on the other hand, dates back to the Renaissance period and is a pleasant daily meeting place for locals and tourists alike; at various times of the year, however, it becomes an exceptional location for cultural, artistic and musical events. With a rich programme of initiatives linked to the local area but with a gaze open to the world, the Municipality and the associations adhere to the Tiberland Project with a varied and constantly updated offer. - MUNICIPALITY OF SACROFANO
Amidst tuff houses and almost untouched volcanic natural landscapes, Sacrofano combines history, culture and nature. This characteristic ancient town is home to fine buildings and churches and, throughout the year, comes alive with festivals and popular events which represent occasions to renew ancient practices and traditions.
Immersed in the Monte Musino forest, the town is home to the headquarters of the Veio Park, an exceptional green area focused on a truly sustainable series of leisure initiatives thanks to an intricate network of paths and cycle-pedestrian routes, suitable for adults and children alike. - MUNICIPALITY OF RIGNANO FLAMINIO
Situated in the Tiber Valley and protected by Mount Soratte, Rignano has always enjoyed a strategic position that can still be appreciated today. The town can be easily reached from Rome or from the motorway. In the narrow streets and squares, elegant buildings and the ruins of the ancient Rocca (Fortress) stand out. Still visible are parts of the original paving of the ancient Via Flaminia, which passed right through the town.

A heterogeneous territory forming a connection between the city centre and the surrounding countryside and which includes historical urban areas, such as the well-known Ponte Milvio (Milvian Bridge) and the Foro Italico facilities, as well as the Roman countryside extending between the Via Cassia and the Via Flaminia. In modern times the expansion of the city has resulted in the creation of the residential districts of Olgiata, Giustiniana and La Storta, which border on areas that are still rural, such as Osteria Nuova and the medieval village of Cesano.
The last stage of the Via Francigena makes it possible to reach St. Peter's from La Storta station, but there are many slow routes to be experienced in every season, inside and outside the city.
PRIVATE ENTITIES
- TEVERE DAY ASSOCIATION
The Tevere Day Association, made up of 70 associations, organisations and federations based in the area, is the leader of the Tiberland Project, one of the winners and recipients of funding from the Lazio Region's Call for Proposals for the establishment of DMOs (Destination Management Organisations). The Association has been active and engaged for several years implementing measures for the promotion and enhancement of the river, which culminate in the annual appointment dedicated to the Tiber. Such endeavours have resulted in the creation of a network and in a new tourism product capable of responding to new trends, integrating cultural and natural resources, experiences and outdoor activities. - AGTAR ASSOCIATION
The largest association of tourist guides in Lazio, consisting of professionals with different training and specialisations, different language skills and specific target groups (students, families with children, disabled). In the Tiberland Project they work with the aim of making the Rome and Lazio area better known, in particular smaller towns and villages. They also intend to contribute to the promotion and enhancement of the sites in the project area through the organisation of initiatives for local inhabitants and visitors - tours and guided visits for specific targets, including tourist operators and press agents. - CoopCulture
The largest co-operative operating in the cultural sector in Italy, for years committed to building an economy based on area development and social cohesion. It takes part in the Project with the design and organisation of experiences focused on the outdoor cluster, expressed in its various declinations (green tourism, ecotourism, horse-riding, birdwatching, astro-tourism). A decade of experience in designing open-air activities, a vehicle through which to combine walks and activities, applied in a unique context of scenic and environmental beauty, with culture and events. - ENTE BILATERALE TURISMO LAZIO
The EBTL is a unitary and joint body made up of the employers' associations in various sectors which are members of Confcommercio (General Federation of Italian Commerce and Tourism), Confesercenti (Italian Confederation of Traders and Hoteliers) and Confindustria (Confederation of Italian Industrialists), as well as the trade unions Filcams-CGIL, Fisascat-CISL, Uiltucs-UIL. It mainly carries out activities identified by collective bargaining in the areas of employment, labour market, income support, training and professional qualification. It takes part in the Tiberland Project with training, qualification and professional requalification activities for the tourist industry. - IKNE srl
This company has a history going back over 30 years in the communication sector; one which has been enhanced over time with new segments and activities: integrated planning, graphic design, creation of coordinated images and advertising campaigns, event organisation and management.
In the Tiberland Project, IKNE is committed to bringing its experience and expertise through consultancy activities for the creation of communication materials, based on chosen graphic designs, and for the realisation and setting up of visibility elements for itineraries and events.
- ISOLA TIBERINA ASSOCIATION
For more than 20 years, the association has been committed to the protection and enhancement of the Tiber Island, a treasure chest of historical, artistic and natural resources. Thanks to the active role of the Association, the Tiberland Project is able to rely on experience and expertise useful to promote the discovery of unique places, unknown even to many Romans. In particular, the Association will promote the accessibility and visibility of the underground areas of the Church of San Bartolomeo and the Fatebenefratelli Hospital with special openings for small groups of visitors. - URBAN ESCAPE srl
A start-up committed to building innovative ways of getting to know the city through play, movement and fun. A new way of travelling dedicated to families and groups who want to discover Rome in an active way. With this spirit, interactive and permanent pedestrian and bicycle routes will be created, usable through apps: a useful support to independently enjoy all the beauty which characterises the Tiber area both in the city and the surrounding countryside. - VIVITALIA S.R.L.
A joint venture between Legambiente, Extra Comunicazione and SL&A, created with the aim of putting the national landscape at the centre of tourism policies. With regard to the Tiberland Project, its aim is the virtuous development of the Tiber itinerary, to protect the environment, the identity of places and communities. To this end, the company will contribute with research and analysis activities, training activities aimed at the construction of tourist networks and products on the topics of cycle tourism and walking, through the realisation of ASTA – Alta Scuola di Turismo Ambientale (High School of Environmental Tourism) modules, and the designing of events and educational tours related to new tourist products. - GREEN MOBILITY TEVERE
An association that has been committed for years to sustainable mobility issues and the construction of cycle paths. It has focused its attention in particular on the 'Sentiero Pasolini', a nature trail on the banks of the Tiber that runs for seventeen kilometres between the municipalities IX and X.
In the Tiberland Project, it is committed to promoting the knowledge, frequentation and maintenance of cycle and pedestrian paths, especially as regards the river area.
- FAITA – FEDERCAMPING
A trade association representing open-air accommodation facilities, which has always been committed to protecting and promoting the specific sector of outdoor accommodation. Staying in a campsite or village is not only cheaper than reverting to traditional facilities, but represents an alternative way of experiencing a holiday, based on a culture of respect and love for nature and the environment. In the Tiberland Project, this trade association is committed to promoting the creation of a territorial network, including through planning and support for the start-up of new activities. - ROMA CAPITOL – OSTIA ANTICA TOURIST VILLAGE

Association with strong roots in Ostia, committed to enhancing the cultural and environmental heritage of one of the most characteristic areas of the city, its seafront. In the Tiberland Project, the Association not only acts as a reference point for the area, but also engages in various activities: redevelopment and enhancement of the Tourist Information Point (PIT) at its headquarters, development of new services for tourists, monitoring the quality of tourist services in the Ostia area, support to new tourism enterprises. - HUMAN COMPANY srl
A Florentine group operating in the H&R sector and Italian leader in the field of outdoor tourism. It manages nine outdoor facilities, including holiday villages, family parks and campsites in countryside units in Tuscany, Veneto and Lazio. It participates in the Project with three facilities: FABOLOUS Village - Rome, I PINI Family Park in Fiano Romano, ROMA CAMPING IN TOWN characterised by quality open-air accommodation, with sports facilities and excellent catering services.
